Trinity Bellwoods Park is a great place to have a meet-up. It is a big park, the there is a part in there that they call the dog bowl. It is on Queen Street W. just west of Bathurst. ~Michelle

Just curious if this park is leash-free?

Hi Michelle! Thanks... To be honest, I'm just not a big fan of leash-free parks. A good friend of mine had a problem at a local one with her LARGE dog (her dog was bit by an aggressive dog). I know for the most part, dog owners are responsible and wouldn't bring overly aggressive dogs but there are always a few bad apples in the bunch... and I won't take the chance... I not only worry about my Nikki but I often have my 5 yr old son in tow, as well.
I'll try to attend most of the meetups... but won't be going to any leash-free parks. We just don't feel comfortable with them.

I'm interested in attending the weekly meetings as well but since I'm also planning to bring my two children with me, I'm concerned about the neighbourhood. I've only been once to the Allen Gardens and was not impressed. Is Trinity Bellwoods in a "safer" neighbourhood?

Is on Queen and Bathurst, I personally haven't heard anything bad about the area but I'll try to do the research, if you have another park that you know is safe and great for dogs please feel free to post.

Trinity Bellwoods is a great park and very safe. Most of the dog stay in the dog bowl. I normally don't go to parks with Zander because he does not get along with bigger dogs (or anything that is not a chihuahua, lol) but I have never had a problem. You can go for walks on the paths or find a place in the grass to sit. It is a very big park. ~Michelle
p.s that is where we had the "Chihuahua picnic in the park" last June.

My chihuahua was attacked at bellwoods park! Please be carefull at off leash parks.....my dog was leashed and was attacked by a boxer that was off his leash and not in the off-leash area of the park. When you let you chi's near big dogs you are always running a risk....in can happen even with "friendly" or "socialized" dogs!

Don't forget about the CHIHUAHUA ROMP June 17th that will be in my backyard.
It's all fenced and NO big dogs around.
Lots of room for the doggies to run around.
More detail to follow.

Hi, We had weekly meet-ups at Trinity Bellwoods a couple of times last summer, and my mom took me there. Peyote, do you remember...? We did not have a good time there unfortunately, since there were a lot of garbege as well as homeless people laying down on the grass... We reported it to Vala. She did some investigation and found that there was some kind of an event the day before and that was the reason the park was covered with garbege. The park may usually be in a good condition, but one of my concerns with that park is that there is a small street running through the park, and lots of cars come in. Also, I saw many large dogs walking off-leash. Some were quite big, and I got a bit nervous...
Allen Garden is located reasonablly off Jervice, and dogs there are usually well behaved. The neighborhood may not be all that impressive, but at least we are safe. What do you think about Queen's Park? Mmmmmm it is difficult to find a perfect park for us, isn't it... Piko

On another note, a friend of mine's dog ate poision at a Toronto park not to long ago. The dog unfortunately passed away. My friend has no idea where in the park the dog got it from as she didn't see the dog pick anything up. This is one fear I have about park visits sadly. (I guess there is a lot of stuff to worry about- even in the nicest parks)
ethel and I go to the Ryerson quad in the summer- so far we haven't been kicked out, although I have heard it happens at times. (I have also been told they put rat poision in areas there- but have not been able to confirm)

Yikes! about the rat poison thing...As some of you may remember we have weeklys in the summer and I'm thinking to have them at the same place as last year...Allan Gardens on Carlton & Jarvis...we never had a problem there so I just need to check it out for this year ...if anybody has another suggestion about a central park please post.

Hi Vala
Is it possible if we could create a poll to see how many chihuahua fans would preffer a later time for future meet ups?

No problem...I'll ask for time suggestions first and then create a poll.
